Shma Featured Projects

June 05, 2024

‘Shma’ means ‘Earth’

Earth is more than just a planet. Earth gave birth to all living things including us, but while we are living our lives, we are also

damaging the world. It's time for us to use our abilities to raise awareness and bring change for our one and only planet Earth.

Philosophy

We believe that our territory is an ecosystem, aliving mechanism of nature and humans with its own life, rhythm and system.

The ecosystem is uncertain and fragile so we need innovative tools to deal with it. However, we first need to understand the sensitivity and connectivity of the context between manmade and nature, city and rural, local and global, as well as wisdom and technology.

Sky Forest Scape | Commercial & Mixed Use
Location: Bangkok, Thailand

“SKY FOREST SCAPE” is a new type of public space on the rooftop in Bangkok. It is a part of the new mixed-use development called “SIAMSCAPE'' which is located at the heart of ‘Siam Square’ - a vibrant young-gen commercial district. This project is a part of the bigger master plan that aims to revamp ‘Siam Square’ with more people-centric urban spaces including walking streets, gathering places, and greenery.

Le Meridien | Hospitality Resort & Hotel

Location: Zhengzhou City, China

Le Meridien Hotel is located in an urban intersection of Zhengzhou City, China. It is a small-scale renovation project with around 6,000 SQM of landscape area in the front of an existing five star hotel completed in 2013 by Neri & Hu. Client’s brief is looking for a stunning hotel frontage landscape to improve the overall appearance as well as resolving the ground parking spaces and vehicular movement at the same time. With the location that is located in a quite densely populated area we set to achieve a landscape that is interactive, imaginatie and artistically crafted to become the new landmark for this neighbourhood.

Mapletree Business City II | Workplace

Location: Singapore, Singapore

The translation of the adjacent nature reserves ecology into the site area is the main landscape concept, creating an "Urban Wilderness" that is not only connecting ecological pattern at large but also provides an ideal micro-climate suitable for working environment. The use of indigenous planting species takes into account ease of maintenance and suitability to the local climate while natural water cycle management including the use of rainwater harvesting irrigation and natural swales will help to maintain healthy ecology in the long run. Various work-life balance activities such as Co-Working space, Green Amphitheatre and Sport Courts are merged seamlessly into the ‘Wilderness’

Lupin Research Park | Workplace

Location: Pune, India

Pune, India, the locale of Lupin Research Park, is known for its drastic dry climate and heavy monsoon, causing the land to be semi-arid, where little rain occurs in one season and overly compensates in another. This variation in precipitation consequently leads to hostile conditions for the ecosystem to thrive.

Based on India local farmer’s wisdom, we learn how this technique of employing step grading can help slow down and retain water while preventing soil erosion on the existing sloped terrains, at the end, allowing efficient agriculture practice under challenging climate. As a result, this same idea of stepping and undulating surface is applied to the landscape design and water management preparation, making the overall project survive and thrive sustainably under extreme conditions. Along with thoughtful programming, Lupin Research Park offers an ecological friendly environment and microclimate, inviting its employees to gather outside amidst greenery all-day long.
